Scrapped poster for Episode I/Acapulco Restaurants Gungan Fiesta!! promo
(That I made up!)
Last February, moviegoers watched the thrills and spills of yesteryear with the release of Star Wars Episode I 3D. For many young fans, it will be their first time to experience the excitement of seeing their favorite scenes come to life on the big screen. Many older fans will have to sit with a bunch of fucking kids as they relive the beginning tale of George Lucas’s epic space opera in stunning real D™ 3D.
There is a great disturbance in the force! Or is there? Since it’s original theatrical release in 1999, Episode I has been talked about with mixed reviews and subjected to muy moy controversy. One of the biggest griefs that older fans share is the dislike for the ever-so-wacky character Jar Jar Binks. On the other side of coin, many younger fans truly enjoy watching the slapstick humor of the unlikely Gungan hero.
Secret it is not! Lucasfilm had high expectations for Jar Jar, as did the numerous licensing companies that came through, looking to get their products adorned with all of the new and exciting creatures from the upcoming Star Wars film. They would ask “Wow! What’s this salamander looking dude? He sure looks happy!” Then, the Lucasfilm rep would explain: “Oh! This is Jar Jar Binks! He’s going to be the next Chewbacca/C-3p0!” Easy sell! The next thing you know, Jar Jar’s likeness was plastered all over the place. However, when word got out about the people’s hatred for Jar Jar, many many ad campaigns were prematurely pulled.
So, I present to thee, such an ad. A never-before-seen (fans really like that kind of shit) promotional ad campaign from Acapulco restaurants.* This fucker never saw the light of day!
*ad is some fake ass shit and is intended as satire. The image displayed is an artist’s depiction of some type of shit that most likely went down on some peeps that got straight up played. No copyright violation, defamation, or slander is intended for the good folks at Acapulco. You guys should eat there and spend a lot of money even though the food there is straight up bullshit -but that’s just my opinion.
